Has there been any consideration given to creating a mobile version of
Xananews? Currently there is really only one free mobile newsgroup
reader for iOS worth using named NewsTap Lite. It works okay, but it
is limited to one newsgroup in the free version.

I don't know if licensing issues and/or the use of the name Xananews is
a hindrance but it sure would be nice to see a better choice available
for iPhones.

it's been a very popular topic, for ages ...
http://xananews.support.free-usenet.eu/XanaNews-Portable_T30392025_S1
is about the best that I can find using google although there is quite
a bit out there.

Good luck.

I think the portable discussion was regarding a no-install version of
XN so you could have it on a USB drive. I am asking about a version
for cell phones and tablets -- an app.

By the way, I can't view the link you provided. See screenshot.

weird ... I wonder why bitdefender doesn't like that page? There is no
file extension [htm/htlm/asp ...] but other that that it seems normal.
The full version on McAfee [not that the statement is worth much]
doesn't have the same problem.

oddly ... http://www.free-usenet.eu/XanaNews-Portable_T30392025_S1 goes
to the right spot as well.

Interesting ... wonder what it is? Bitdefender being a little
overprotective?

I ran it through an online [random - first hit on google] malware
security tool and it came up fine.

I suspect so since this happened with another website. I have since
reverted back to Avast free.

I did consider it a couple of years ago, but the tool used to write XanaNews wasn't really ready for it back then. It is getting there now.
But besides that is going to be lot of work to create a mobile version and I don't have enough spare time at the moment. I don't know if somebody else is considering it or actually working on it.

I'm trying to imagine how XanaNews should look like/work on a mobile device with a relative small screen, the current user interface is probably unusable on such a device.

I don't think you can have a Message Tree that expands. NewsTap seems
to have got the idea right with a page for groups, a page for messages,
a page for the message, a page for connection options, etc.

It would have to be pretty much TOTALLY re-designed.

I'm trying to get started "porting" a couple of my apps to the iPad
environment (It's NOT going well at all at the moment. <g>) and finally
came to the conclusion and decision that a complete re-design is going
to be an absolute requirement! So,... The time has come, the Walrus

Time to switch to Android then. ;-) There are a couple of nice NNTP
clients for Android. I frequently use one called "NewsGroup". The
interface is not very pretty to look at, but it works quite well.

More competition in this field will always be welcome though. The
problem would also be (excluding the fact that it is a lot of work) is
the interface for such a small device. XanaNews has lots going on in the UI.

G.
