Post by badgolfermanPost by Taper_MikeI have seached the Options for XanaNews, but find no mention of
ports, SSL, or TLS.
I found NNTP port assignment in Acocunt Properties > Dial up and
Connection. That's good. SSL is mentioned, which is also good, but
there is nothing regarding TLS or SMTP.

Xananews does not do mail anymore. That function was removed a long
time ago. I'm not sure what TLS though.

Following is a copy of the message I sent directly to BadGolferMan
using the XanaNews command Mail Reply. I am posting it here just in
case the email message did not arrive.
Hi,
If I am understanding you correctly, you are saying that XanaNews no
longer functions as an email reader. (a.k.a. email client). If so, that
is not what I meant.
I was referring to the command Mail Reply (to usenet message). I'm
using it right now to send this to you. I entered my email address in
XanaNews using the command Tools > Identities..., but could not specify
the ports Yahoo uses for SSL. I presume XanaNews defaulted to no SLL on
port 25.
Outgoing mail generated by this command uses SMTP, so it seems
reasonable that I should be able to configure it. In particular, I
should be able to set a port and specify SSL and/or TLS.
FYI: TLS (transport-layer security) is the new, improved version of
SSL. If you don't already know about it, check Wikipedia. (That's what
I had to do!)
Thanks again for helping out.
Mike
