I have XanaNews 1.19.1.320.

Somebody (Quentin?) had e-mailed me weeks ago a file with a more recent
version of XanaNews, but I lost it...

Is there a place where I can download this more recent version?

Thanks.

Thank you "Q" I received your message.

Why not post the file to xananews.techtips.com.br/ or similar site so
that everybody else can easily get it?

Because that particular file is a private "version" I've been working
on with Pieter and I don't want to clutter-up his "official" SVN
environment.

tb,

I should have mentioned that I DO give Pieter my "mods" for his review
and inclusion as he sees fit. We're a bit "hung" on ToolBar components
issues at the moment so he hasn't felt that we should make any hard
mods yet.

Who knows, maybe 2013 will be the year when an official new version
will be available to everybody? :-)

XanaNews is a fantastic newsreader. Much better than Mozilla Firefox!

In other forums people talk about being able to have their newsreader
of choice (Gravity I believe is one of them) assign scores to threads
and set rules. Is this something that XanaNews can do too?

No. And I don't see any *practical* use from such stats. But I'm a
bit of a simplistic guy. <g>

Is there a 64-bit version of XanaNews? I seem to remember that back in
2012 Pieter Zijlstra had said that he was working on one.

It'd difficult to make progress on 64bit stuff since Delphi's 64bit
environment isn't stable. I doubt Pieter has been able to make much
progress on a 64bit XN.

But I'll let him comment when he drops by this NG.

I wouldn't call this an official version but I've just uploaded a new version to my private homepage, including the 64-bit version:

http://home.hccnet.nl/p.zylstra/downloads/XanaNews/

Revision log:
=============
Changes since v1.19.1.320

Fix: Support of wild cards at the begin and the end of a search
string (Filter Text).
Fix: if a header or an article was downloaded and filtered out the
highwatermark was not updated, meaning that the next time the
same header or article would be downloaded again, and again ... and
again.
Fix: when downloading headers the Bozo bin was not checked to see if a
header should be filtered out.
Fix: if a just downloaded header was filtered out it would cause a
memory leak.
Fix: a setup dialog gave you the illusion that you could change the
background color of individual message pane elements, but the
actual code parsing the message didn't support it.
New: added support for macintosh MIME charset types.
Fix: default MIMECharsetName for Hebrew was incorrect.
Fix: AV in case a MIME message part did not contain any MIME headers at
all (XN 1.18.1.6 did that for instance) when trying to see if the
message part contains an attachment or not.
Fix: non-synchronized multi-threaded issues when attempting to
re-download an article that no longer existed on the server.
Fix: "Make Dormant" did not save the changed subscribed group settings.
Imp: When using "Make Dormant" on more than one group all accounts
settings were saved when iterating each selected group (which made
it very slow).
Fix: displaying of the paper clip in the messages tree in case of MIME
plain/text attachments.
Fix: displaying of the paper clip in the messages tree in case of MIME
quoted-printable plain/text attachments.
New: added support of MIME quoted-printable plain/text attachments.
Fix: the User-Agent header, so that the extra information (like x64) is
behind the productname/productversion.
New: Pure pascal implementation for X-Face support (Nicholas Ring), this
is an important step that made the x64 version of XanaNews
possible.
Fix: Deleting (filter) on article numbers.
Imp: support for article numbers >= 2^31
Fix: SpellCheckerForm did not save it's position settings in the
xml-file.
Imp: better support for resizing the SpellCheckerForm.
Imp: updated the "search for message-id on google.groups" link.
Fix: changed form properties of SpellCheckerForm so that it scales
better on systems that use large scale fonts (120% DPI).
Imp: Bookmarks drop-down list, it is now sorted.
New: option to specify a path to ISpell so it no longer depends on the
registry only. This makes it also possible to use ISpell when using
XanaNews as a portable app. For this you need to copy the ISpell
folder to the memory stick and in XanaNews setup the (relative)
ISpell path.
Fix: Enabling using ISpell in 64 bit windows versions.
Imp: The Change button is now the default button when spelling
suggestions are available.
Fix: Minor fix in coloring of the messages in the messages tree.
Imp: Recognizing +word+ as used in EMBT forums to indicate the word is
intended to be displayed in italic.
Imp: No longer check the spelling of signatures.

Pieter,

Just an aside thought...

I have made the following assumptions:

1) - The 32-bit XN version will run on BOTH a Win-32 and Win-64
platform;

2) - The 64-bit XN version will run ONLY on a 64-bit platform.

Are those assumption correct?

100% correct.
Just as a side node I don't have and therefor didn't test on Windows 8 yet.

I wouldn't call this an official version but I've just uploaded a new
http://home.hccnet.nl/p.zylstra/downloads/XanaNews/
downloaded, installed, worx fine. THNX
But I recognized that XN doesn't shows encoded headercontent in
messagepane as you can see here Loading Image...
It would be nice if this could be fixed in a further version, also to
make XN show X-Face AND Face together.
